　　《寂靜嶺：歸途（Silent Hill: Homecoming）》的主角將士一名經驗豐富的退役老兵「Alan Shepherd」，他的任務是尋找失蹤的弟弟。主角在恐怖的世界中可握著短匕向黑暗中突然襲來的女護士攻擊。主角的移動速度和頻率比以往的作品快了不少，但在遊戲中的各種敵人動作更快，這就使得本作的整體戰鬥節奏變得以往都快。
　　遊戲中可以抓住護士的頭並將匕首刺入她們的脖子。當然，還有大量的鮮血噴湧而出濺在四周，一些血點會濺上屏幕。本作在沿襲系列傳統的藝術風格和濾鏡的同時在新主機上創造出了令人驚異的遊戲畫面。手電筒的燈光看起來和真的一樣，光下的影子栩栩如生。醫院中的各種醫療器具都在光下拉出怪異的影子，在主角經過的時候如果碰到它們的話，物理引擎會讓他們做出符合規律的移動。角色和環境的細節非常棒，系列的噪點風格仍然存在，這樣的濾鏡使得遊戲畫面看上去和經歷了時間洗禮的褪色膠片放出的電影一樣。
